Top tips for buying a car seat for newborns:

3. Check for compatibility with your vehicle and consider the ease of installation and adjustment features.

How important is the five-point harness?

It’s a critical safety feature in car seats!  With two shoulder straps, two hip straps, and a crotch strap, this distributes the force of a collision across the strongest parts of a baby’s body. This system ensures maximum protection and minimizes the risk of ejection or injury in the event of an accident. It is recommended to use a car seat with a five-point harness as long as your child fits within the seat's height and weight limits.

Rear- or forward-facing travel?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other global safety organizations recommend keeping your child in a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible, at least until they reach the maximum height or weight limit set by the car seat manufacturer. As explained above, rear-facing seats provide superior protection to a child's head, neck, and spine, especially in the event of a frontal crash. Is i-Size the best choice?

i-Size is a European car seat safety regulation that has been adopted in the Middle East, which focuses on providing better protection from side impacts and keeping children rearward-facing for longer. It also has the added advantage of easy installation with ISOfix anchors, and a simplified selection process based on a child's height rather than weight, therefore providing a better fit.  The seats are categorised under four groups i-Size baby (newborns up to 85cm in height), i-Size baby and toddler (newborn to 105cm), i-Size toddler and child (61-105cm) and i-Size child (100-135cm).
